GHANA PROJECT

GHANA DIABETES PROJECT AND ACTIVITIES

Ghana has high prevalence rates of diabetes with many undiagnosed diabetes cases. The University of East London, Going Global Scheme sponsored some members of PFORET2D team for a diabetes campaign project in Ghana. We worked in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Diabetes Association and the Diabetes Clinic Centre Weija. Our activities include screening for risk factors, free blood glucose and blood pressure checks, demonstration of how blood glucose accumulates in the body, interactive discussions on long term effects of diabetes, risk factors of diabetes and how to reduce the risk factors, distribution of diabetes educational materials and advise. Many people at risk of diabetes were identified. It is obvious that our project was a leverage to the participants, especially as Ghana is in deep need of creating diabetes awareness campaign across her nation. His Excellency, John Agyekum Kuffuor former President of Ghana appreciated our effort.

To continue with this project and extend it to other parts of the developing
countries, PAFORET2D seek for funding supports and sponsors.
